Since my motherhood began, I’ve always experienced Jolly Old Saint Nicholas in a melancholy way. It stems from my eldest child’s discomfort with sitting on a strange man’s lap and asking him for things. Billy had a tough time deciding. He was humble, sweet and did not want to ask for much. Once, he requested one silver bell. I sing this song through my Billy’s young lens and give him love.
